Scholarship & Aids

Free Studentship :

(i)12.5 percent of the students of the College are granted free studentship.

(ii)Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students are exempted from paying tuition fees on production of a certificate in the prescribed form. They are also required to produce an income certificate in the prescribed form within a fortnight from the date of admission for consideration of their cases for adhoc grant of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Scholarship.

Aid from the Social Service Guild :
Annual aid is also given to deserving students by the College Social Service Guild.

Aid from the Students’ Aid Fund :
Similar aid is given from the Students’ Aid Fund. Government aid to poor students through Social Service Guild will be awarded to deserving poor students. It will be awarded by the Governing Body of the College and the College Social Service Guild will have a say in the matter.

Government’s Scholarship & Stipends :

(a)National Science Talent Search Scholarship :

Students of First Year of +2 Science only are eligible to appear in the National Science Talent Search Examination. The Intending candidates shall prepare themselves for the said examination under the guidance of science teachers. The selected students shall be awarded scholarship for their study at B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. stage.

(b)National Scholarship :

A number of post-matric National Scholarships are awarded to meritorious students remaining tenable up to the Master’s Degree stage subject to securing a first class in C.H.S.E. and University examination.

(c)State Scholarship :

A number scholarships are awarded by the State on merit only.

Other Scholarships, Stipends & Awards :

1.Scholarships are awarded by T.R.W. Department to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students on application in the prescribed form.

2.Financial assistance is given to the children of Goldsmiths affected by promulgation of Gold Control Order.

3.Financial assistance is also given to the children of Ex-service personnel.

4.Scholarship to the students orthopedically handicapped are awarded on application.

5.Financial assistance at the rate of 100% is also given to each student who has passed H.S.C. Examination in 1st. division and got free studentship for the preceding two years in the school studied last.

Rules Governing the Scholarship Holder :

(a)All scholarships and aid are granted subject to sat isfactory conduct and diligence in studies.

(b)Scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if the progress and conduct of the scholar is unsatisfactory.

(c)No person receiving a scholarship shall be permitted to hold any other scholarship wholly or partly provided by the Government without the special sanction of the Director. Such sanction shall be accorded only for very distinguished merit.

(d)Absence without leave for any period up to thirty days at a time shall amount to loss of scholarship for twice the amount for the period of absence.

(e)Absence without leave for more than thirty days at one time shall amount to forfeiture of the entire scholarship awarded.

(f)While receiving scholarship or any other financial help from the college office the students should produce their Identity Cards.

Biraja Lectures

Annual Biraja Lectures :

1.Biraja Lecture is held every year on the Triveni Amavasya, the swanakshatra of Devi Biraja, the reigning deity of Jajpur as fixed in the Biraja Panji.

2.The guest speakers are essentially prominent in the cultural field of Orissa or India.

3.The guest speakers shall be selected and invited to accept the offer at least one month in advance of the 1st day of lectures on the following terms :

a)The lectures shall be subjects suggested by the College or mutually agreed upon between the college and the speaker.

b)The guest speakers shall send the manuscripts of the lectures at least 15 days in advance of the 1st day of lectures.

c)The speaker shall receive T.A./D.A. as admissible under Govt. rules.

d)The guest speakers shall receive an honorarium of Rs.200/- only per lecture.

e)The copyright of lectures shall rest with the college and the speakers have no claim to royalty on the sell proceeds of the lectures to be published as a supplement to the college magazine.

f)The Magazine shall be a priced publication but the students and the members of the staff are entitled to a free copy of the Magazine as complimentary copies and the balance sold to the general public through the college cooperative store.

4.The organisation of the lectures shall be the sole responsibility of the principal who may constitute a management committee comprising the following and other if necessary.

a)Secretary, Staff Council.

b)Adviser, College Union.

c)Heads of the Teaching Department.

d)Adm. Bursar & Accounts Bursar.

e)The President & the Secretary of the College Union.

f)The Secretaries of the other College Associations.

5.The fund shall comprise :

a)10% of the annual subscriptions paid by the students to all the college Associations except the S.S.G. (if available)

b)Sales proceeds of the published lectures.

c)Donations, grants on requests.

6.The Principal shall remain the sole authority in all the matters pertaining to the Annual Biraja Lectures, N.C. (Autonomous) College, Jajpur.

7.Honorarium For The Speakers :

Dr. Sulok Sundar Mohanty, Reader in Sanskrit, has contributed a sum of Rs.21,400/- in memory of his eldest brother as “DR. BRAJASUNDAR MOHANTY MEMORIAL FUND” as a fixed deposit in the UCO Bank, Abdalpur Branch, the interest proceeds of which has to be given as the honorarium to the speakers of the Biraja Lectures on the condition that they have to submit two copies of their speech, one for publication and another to be sent by the college in the permanent address of the donor.

Nation – Building

NCC – National Cadet Corps :

The College has two units of NCC, but at present, they are in suspended animation. Necessary steps have been taken to move appropriate authorities to revive them.

NSS – National Service Scheme :

Aim :
To promote national consciousness and a sense of social responsibility and to inculcate discipline and dignity of labour among the students.

Projects :
In order to achieve the aims, the NSS programme will include the following projects.

(a)Social service and work experience.

(b)General education through planning forum and seminar.

(c)Literary drive and social education.

(d)Campus work projects.

(e)Rover training, red cross activities and community living in campus.

Enrolment :
Students will be selected from 1st. and 3rd. year classes. Any student of other classes voluntarily coming for-ward may be enrolled. There will be two units of fifty students each.

Selection :
An intending participant shall apply in the prescribed form and will be selected on the following basis.

(a)Past experience,

(b)Extra curricular activities,

(c)Through observation.

Time :
The students associated with NSS will undertake the project assigned to them during sundays and on no other days disturbing their normal study.

The Youth Red Cross :
The Youth Red Cross Unit of the College has started functioning since 1977-78. Boys & girls are entitled to enrol themselves as active volunteers every year at the beginning of the academic session. Interested students may apply in the proper form to the counsellors.

Aims and Objectives :
The overall objective of the Y.R.C.Unit is to provide voluntary service to the community through the young stu-dent volunteers. It seeks to arouse the social conscious-ness in the students and provide them with the opportunity to work during national emergency with creative and con-structive spirit. It is a means to utilise their youthful spirit in materialising the nation-building movement uplifting the suf-fering and distressed lot of the humanity and above all achiev-ing universal brotherhood.
